To understand the odds against being personally alive right now, one
might first consider that only 6% of the one-hundred or so billion
people who have ever lived are alive right now. It seems rather odd that
we should be among that rather paltry six-percent by mere chance. And,
that’s just the beginning. ...
Now,
and what is most germane to the discussion at hand, is not even
there is a God, who created us belief can solve this particular
problem. God could have created us at any time in the past, future, or
even not at all, so our present existence would still be just as
“grotesquely lucky.”
